This breaker features an I-Line plug-in mounting style and is designed exclusively for use in Square D I-Line Panelboards and I-Line Switchboards. It is not compatible with standard NQ, NF, QO, or Homeline load centers.
Does the JJA36225 include mechanical lugs on both ends of the breaker?
No. Because this is an I-Line style plug-in breaker, the line side features jaw-style connectors that plug directly onto the panelboard bus bar. Only the load side is equipped with mechanical wire lugs for cable termination.
What is the recommended lug tightening torque for this circuit breaker?
The standard load-side lugs on the JJA36225 accept 3/0 AWG to 350 kcmil aluminum or copper wire. The recommended tightening torque for these terminals is 221 lbf-in (25 N.m).
What is the recommended wire stripping length for the load terminals on the JJA36225?
When terminating the load-side wiring, you should strip approximately 1.0 inch (25 mm) of insulation from the conductors before inserting them into the mechanical lugs.
Are the trip settings on the JJA36225 adjustable?
Yes. While the thermal (long-time) trip function is fixed at 225 amps, this breaker includes an adjustable magnetic (instantaneous) trip function. The magnetic trip range can be adjusted from 1125A to 2250A depending on your specific application requirements.
Is the JJA36225 rated for 100 percent continuous current?
No, this is a standard-rated circuit breaker, meaning it is rated for 80 percent continuous load operation. For a continuous load lasting three hours or more, the maximum sustained current should not exceed 180 amps (80 percent of its 225 amp rating).
Can field-installable internal accessories be added to this breaker?
Yes. The PowerPacT J-Frame has designated accessory compartments that can accommodate internal field-installable devices. This includes auxiliary switches, alarm switches, overcurrent trip switches, and voltage releases like shunt trips.
