5 answersWhat is the modern direct replacement for the legacy Square D KAL36225?
The KAL36225 K-Frame breaker is a legacy component. Schneider Electric replaced it with the modern PowerPact J-Frame series, such as the JGL36225. Because PowerPact breakers have different physical dimensions, retrofitting them into older enclosures or switchboards may require a specific mounting adapter plate.
What is the correct replacement lug kit for the KAL36225?
The standard mechanical lug kit for this K-Frame breaker is catalog number AL250KA. It accepts one aluminum or copper conductor from 4 AWG to 350 kcmil and can be installed on both the line and load sides.
What is the instantaneous magnetic trip range on the KAL36225?
While the long-time thermal trip is fixed at 225 Amps, the instantaneous magnetic trip is adjustable. The magnetic trip range can be set from a low of 1125 Amps up to a high of 2250 Amps using the adjustment dial on the front of the breaker.
Is the KAL36225 compatible with Square D I-Line panelboards?
No. The KAL36225 is a unit mount breaker with feed-thru lug connections on both ends. It is designed for standard enclosures, motor control centers, and switchboards. Breakers requiring plug-on jaw connections for I-Line panelboards require a different frame design.
Can the KAL36225 circuit breaker be used on DC circuits?
Yes. In addition to its AC ratings, the KAL36225 is rated for use on DC systems up to 250VDC. It provides a 10kAIC interrupting capacity at 250VDC.
