Belonging to the PowerPacT M-frame family, this 400A electronic trip breaker provides reliable power distribution for industrial facilities. The microprocessor-controlled unit ensures highly accurate sensing. Designed for Square D I-Line panelboards, the plug-on phase connections simplify installation. It serves as a modern replacement for legacy MA36400 models. Featuring adjustable magnetic trip settings, it achieves a 35kAIC rating at 480VAC and includes a push-to-trip testing mechanism.
Can I use the MGA36400 to replace an older MA36400 circuit breaker?
Yes, the PowerPacT M-frame MGA36400 [2.1.1] is the modern replacement for legacy MA and MH frame circuit breakers, including the MA36400. It features a more compact footprint while maintaining full compatibility with existing I-Line panelboards.
How much bus space does this circuit breaker require in an I-Line panel?
The MGA36400 requires 9 inches of I-Line mounting space on the panelboard bus.
What is the recommended lug tightening torque for this circuit breaker?
The factory load lugs require a tightening torque of 442.5 lbf.in (50 N.m).
What are the exact pickup settings for the trip unit?
It is equipped with a basic ET 1.0 electronic trip unit. The long-time (L) pickup is fixed at 400A, while the instantaneous (I) trip is adjustable from a low of 800A to a high of 4000A.
Is the ET 1.0 trip unit interchangeable or field-replaceable?
No, the basic ET 1.0 electronic trip unit is factory-sealed. It cannot be replaced, swapped, or upgraded in the field.
What phase connection does this breaker use?
The standard MGA36400 utilizes an ABC phase connection for the I-Line bus.
How many conductors per phase do the load lugs accept?
The factory mechanical load lugs are designed to terminate three parallel conductors per phase. Each of these conductors must be sized between 3/0 AWG and 500 kcmil, and they accept either aluminum or copper wire.
Does this breaker feature a manual push-to-trip button?
Yes, it includes an integral push-to-trip button on the cover to manually trip the breaker and test the mechanical operation.
Will the MGA36400 fit in a standard Square D NQ or NF panelboard?
No, this breaker utilizes an I-Line style plug-in connection. It is strictly designed for Square D I-Line panelboards and switchboards, and cannot be used in NQ or NF distribution panels.
Is this a 100% rated circuit breaker?
No, the MGA36400 carries a standard 80% continuous current rating.
