Engineered for commercial and industrial power distribution, this PowerPacT M-Frame breaker delivers precise electronic trip coordination. The microprocessor-based LI sensing provides reliable long-time and instantaneous protection without the thermal memory issues of older units. Designed for standard I-Line panelboards and switchboards, it serves as a drop-in replacement for legacy MA36500 models. Features include a 35kAIC rating at 480VAC, push-to-trip mechanism, and Visi-Trip indicator.
Which panelboards accept the MGA36500 circuit breaker?
This I-Line style plug-in breaker is designed exclusively for use in Square D I-Line panelboards and I-Line switchboards.
What wire sizes do the factory lugs on the MGA36500 accept?
The factory lugs accommodate three conductors per phase, accepting wire sizes from 3/0 AWG to 500 kcmil. They are rated for both aluminum and copper (Al/Cu) wire.
What does the G in the MGA36500 catalog number signify?
In the PowerPacT M-frame series, the letter G indicates the standard interrupting rating class. It signifies maximum ratings of 65kAIC at 240VAC, 35kAIC at 480VAC, and 18kAIC at 600VAC.
How does the electronic trip unit function on this 500A breaker?
The solid-state electronic trip unit features LI functions, providing both long-time and instantaneous overcurrent protection for the circuit.
Can the thermal trip setting be adjusted on this breaker?
No, the MGA36500 features a fixed thermal (long-time) setting. Only the magnetic (instantaneous) protection allows for field adjustability.
Can the MGA36500 replace older legacy Square D breakers?
Yes, the MGA36500 is the direct Schneider Electric replacement for the legacy Square D MA36500 circuit breaker. It upgrades the older thermal-magnetic design to a solid-state electronic trip unit while maintaining the exact same 500A rating and I-Line mounting dimensions.
Is the MGA36500 continuous current rated at 80 percent or 100 percent?
This circuit breaker carries a standard 80 percent continuous current rating.
Does the MGA36500 feature a manual trip mechanism?
Yes, like all PowerPacT circuit breakers, it features an integral push-to-trip button on the cover. This allows you to manually trip the breaker for mechanical testing and maintenance.
