This Q-Frame breaker utilizes an I-Line style plug-in connection on the line side, meaning it mounts directly onto the interior bus stack of Square D I-Line panelboards and switchboards. The load side is equipped with traditional mechanical lugs for wire terminations.
How much mounting space does the QBA32150 require in an I-Line panel?
As a 3-pole PowerPacT Q-Frame breaker, it requires 4.5 inches of vertical mounting space on the panelboard's I-Line bus stack.
Is the QBA32150 compatible with standard QO or NQ load centers?
No. The QBA32150 is designed exclusively for commercial I-Line panelboards and switchboards. It cannot be installed into standard residential QO, or commercial NQ and NF distribution panels.
Can this Q-Frame breaker be used on 480V or 600V electrical systems?
No. The QBA32150 has a maximum operational voltage rating of 240VAC. Three-phase systems operating at 480V or 600V will require a different PowerPacT series breaker, such as an H-Frame or J-Frame model.
What are the magnetic trip settings for this 150A breaker?
The breaker's fixed thermal-magnetic trip unit features a magnetic hold current of 1200A and a magnetic trip current of 2400A.
Is this breaker rated for continuous operation at 100 percent of its capacity?
No. The QBA32150 carries a standard continuous current rating of 80 percent, meaning the continuous load should not exceed 120A (80 percent of its 150A capacity) under normal operating conditions.
What does the LI trip function indicate on this model?
LI indicates that the breaker provides Long-Time and Instantaneous protection. The Long-Time thermal element protects the circuit against gradual overloads, while the Instantaneous magnetic element provides rapid tripping during severe short-circuit faults.
Are there equivalent 150A I-Line breakers with higher interrupting ratings?
Yes. If your application requires a short-circuit interrupting rating higher than the 10kAIC provided by the QBA32150, you can upgrade to the QDA32150 (25kAIC), the QGA32150 (65kAIC), or the QJA32150 (100kAIC).
