The QCGFEP1030 is a Ground Fault Equipment Protector (GFEP) with a 30mA trip threshold, designed to protect equipment from damage while preventing nuisance tripping. A standard Class A GFCI breaker has a 5mA trip threshold and is strictly designed for personnel shock protection.
Can I use this 30mA GFEP breaker to meet residential bathroom or kitchen receptacle codes?
No. The National Electrical Code (NEC) requires Class A GFCI protection with a 5mA trip threshold for residential bathroom, kitchen, and outdoor receptacles to protect personnel. This 30mA equipment protection breaker does not meet those personnel safety requirements.
What types of applications require a 30mA GFEP breaker?
Ground Fault Equipment Protection (GFEP) breakers are typically used to protect electrical equipment that may have inherent low-level current leakage. Common applications include pipe heat tracing tapes, roof snow melting equipment, and industrial heating systems.
How does this Quicklag QC breaker mount in an enclosure?
The QC series features a cable-in/cable-out, feed-thru design using box lugs, meaning it does not plug onto a traditional loadcenter bus bar. It mounts to the backpan using Eaton Quicklag base mounting plates designed specifically for QC series breakers.
How is the neutral connection handled for this GFEP breaker?
The breaker is equipped with a pigtail neutral. You must route and terminate this attached white pigtail wire directly to the neutral bus bar in the panelboard to properly power the internal ground fault detection circuitry.
Is the Cutler-Hammer QCGFEP1030 the exact same breaker as the Eaton version?

Unfortunately, I think that the breaker that was shipped to me is defective. It has a very sensitive neutral element on panel side lead and trips when breaker is energized.
I tried it on another circuit and does the same. existing breakers checked and installed in slot for new breaker and they function normally.
it's not beyond the realm of possibly that it was a factory defect.
I will be calling soon to speak with a technician.
