What is the difference between the HFD3030 and the HFD3030V?
Both are 30A, 3-pole, F-frame breakers with identical physical dimensions and interrupting ratings. The only difference is the thermal calibration. The standard HFD3030 is calibrated for 40 degrees Celsius, while the HFD3030V is calibrated for 50 degrees Celsius.
Can the Eaton HFD3030V replace legacy Cutler-Hammer or Westinghouse breakers?
Yes. Eaton acquired the Westinghouse molded case circuit breaker line and later transitioned the Cutler-Hammer branding. The Eaton HFD3030V is the direct, drop-in replacement for legacy Westinghouse and Cutler-Hammer breakers with the exact same catalog number.
Which panelboards accept the HFD3030V circuit breaker?
This F-frame breaker is designed to bolt into Eaton Series C panelboards, switchboards, and motor control centers. It is not compatible with newer Eaton Power Defense panels or legacy residential load centers.
How is the HFD3030V secured inside the panelboard?
It is a bolt-on breaker that fastens directly to the panelboard bus using mounting screws. This bolt-on connection provides a highly secure, low-resistance contact that is ideal for environments subject to heavy vibration.
Can I adjust the trip settings on the HFD3030V?
No. This breaker features a fixed thermal and fixed magnetic trip unit. Neither the continuous current (long-time) nor the instantaneous short-circuit pickup can be adjusted in the field.
Is the HFD3030V suitable for DC circuits?
Yes. While commonly used in AC systems up to 600VAC, this breaker is also rated for up to 250VDC with a 22kAIC interrupting capacity. This allows it to be used in battery plants and industrial DC control panels.
Does the HFD3030V provide ground fault equipment protection?
No. The HFD3030V uses a standard fixed thermal and fixed magnetic trip unit designed strictly for overload and short-circuit protection. It does not include integrated ground fault (GFPE) or arc fault capabilities.
