Maintaining obsolete electrical systems requires reliable replacement parts like this 70A molded case circuit breaker. It provides essential long-time and instantaneous trip functions for heavy-duty commercial environments. The N-Frame footprint ensures a proper fit into existing Federal Pacific panelboards without modifications. It acts as a dependable substitute for hard-to-find components, matching the specifications of the UBIF370N cross-reference.
What panelboards is the NEF431070 designed to fit?
This N-Frame breaker is designed for legacy Federal Pacific (FPE) commercial distribution panelboards, specifically the CDP and BDP series, that accept bolt-on molded case circuit breakers.
Can I install this breaker in a Federal Pacific Stab-Lok residential panel?
No. The NEF431070 is a commercial N-Frame molded case circuit breaker with a bolt-on connection. It will not fit into Stab-Lok load centers, which require specific plug-on Stab-Lok branch breakers.
What mounting hardware is needed to install this breaker?
Installing this N-Frame breaker into FPE CDP or BDP panelboards requires specific bus connection hardware. Twin mounting kits, such as the BKCDPNEFFPE or BKBDPNEFFPE, are typically used to mount two NE or NEF frame breakers adjacent to each other.
Can the NEF431070 be used in direct current (DC) systems?
Yes. In addition to its standard 240V and 480V alternating current ratings, this breaker is rated for 250VDC applications with a 10kA interrupting capacity.
Are the trip settings on the NEF431070 adjustable?
No. This breaker features a fixed thermal-magnetic trip unit. The long-time (thermal) overload protection and instantaneous (magnetic) short-circuit protection are factory set and cannot be adjusted in the field.
Are there aftermarket cross-references available for the NEF431070?
Yes. Since original Federal Pacific equipment is obsolete, exact-fit aftermarket replacements are available. You can often use the cross-reference catalog number UBIF370N, which matches the physical footprint, bolt-on mounting, and electrical specifications of the original FPE N-Frame.
Will this breaker replace other Federal Pacific N-Frame models?
Yes, the NEF series shares the same physical dimensions and mounting hardware requirements as other legacy FPE N-Frame breakers, including the NE and HEG series. It can serve as a direct replacement provided the amperage, voltage, and interrupting ratings meet your system requirements.
Does this breaker have the same safety issues as Federal Pacific Stab-Lok breakers?
The widely documented safety concerns and failure rates associated with Federal Pacific equipment are specific to their residential Stab-Lok line. The NEF431070 is a commercial-grade molded case circuit breaker and does not share the Stab-Lok design, though all legacy electrical distribution equipment should be routinely inspected and tested.

Great service & pricing
Superbreakers did a great job for us. We called and asked if the breakers were actually in their possession. Withing 30 minutes they called us back (which is rare these days), and we got our breakers the next morning.
