This THLC2 frame breaker features a bolt-on connection designed specifically for use in GE switchboards and Motor Control Centers. It is not compatible with standard plug-on panelboards or residential load centers.
Current limiting breakers like the THLC234175 force fault arcs into specialized arc plates to rapidly counter the driving voltage. This action significantly reduces let-through energy during a short circuit, which helps prevent dielectric breakdown and mechanical damage to downstream devices.
The standard lugs on this breaker accept copper or aluminum conductors ranging from 4 AWG to 300 kcmil. Ensure all connections are torqued to the manufacturer specifications printed on the breaker faceplate prior to energizing.
The trip unit utilizes a bimetallic strip for long-time thermal protection against sustained overloads. For instantaneous protection, a magnetic element detects severe short circuits and immediately actuates the trip mechanism to open the circuit.
Yes, it carries a maximum interrupting rating of 200kAIC at 480VAC. This exceptionally high rating allows it to be safely installed in industrial distribution systems with massive available fault currents.
It is built on the GE THLC2 frame. Knowing the frame size is critical for verifying physical dimensions, mounting footprint, and hardware compatibility when replacing an existing breaker in a GE switchboard.
