Description

Built to safeguard critical hardware, the GE THQB2140GFEP provides 30mA ground fault equipment protection (GFEP) for commercial facilities. By utilizing a higher trip threshold than standard 5mA personnel GFCIs, this 40A device effectively prevents nuisance tripping on circuits running motors, heat tracing, or industrial equipment. Designed for seamless integration, it bolts securely into GE AQ lighting panels and A-Series panelboards. The breaker includes self-test capabilities and 10kAIC.

Product FAQs

6 answers
What is the difference between this GFEP breaker and a standard Class A GFCI breaker?

The THQB2140GFEP provides Ground Fault Equipment Protection (GFEP) with a 30mA trip threshold, designed to protect machinery, heat tracing, and snow melting equipment. Standard Class A GFCI breakers have a 5mA trip threshold intended for personnel protection, which can cause nuisance tripping on equipment loads with higher inherent leakage current.

Can this bolt-on breaker be used in residential GE Powermark Gold load centers?

No. Residential Powermark load centers require plug-on THQL series breakers. This THQB unit is strictly for commercial GE A-Series panelboards and AQ lighting panels that accept bolt-on connections.

How is the neutral connection handled on this 240V breaker?

You must connect the attached white neutral pigtail directly to the panel neutral bus bar. This connection is required to power the internal ground fault detection circuitry, even if the 240V load does not require a neutral wire.

Is this breaker suitable for heat tracing or de-icing applications?

Yes. The 30mA ground fault equipment protection provided by this breaker is precisely what is required by the NEC for fixed outdoor electric de-icing and snow melting equipment to prevent nuisance tripping.

Is there a higher interrupting rating alternative to the THQB2140GFEP?

Yes. If your system requires more than 10kAIC, the THHQB line offers the same physical footprint and bolt-on design but with a 22kAIC rating at 240V. Verify exact ground fault equipment protection availability in the THHQB catalog for your required amperage.

Why might this breaker arrive with ABB branding instead of General Electric?

ABB acquired GE Industrial Solutions in 2018. Depending on the manufacturing date, these breakers may carry ABB logos, GE logos, or both. The form, fit, and internal components are identical to legacy GE THQB breakers.
