Delivering robust performance for commercial facilities, the Square D MGA36700 is a 700A, 3-pole electronic trip circuit breaker. It features an ET 1.0 microprocessor trip unit for precise long-time and instantaneous (LI) sensing. Designed with an I-Line plug-on connection, it installs into Square D I-Line panelboards and switchboards, functioning as a drop-in replacement for discontinued MA36700 breakers. It provides an interrupting capacity of 35 kAIC at 480VAC for reliable protection.
What panelboards are compatible with the MGA36700?
This breaker is designed exclusively for Square D I-Line panelboards and switchboards. It features an I-Line plug-on connection for the line side and mechanical lugs for the load side.
Can I use this to replace an older MA36700 breaker?
Yes, the PowerPacT M-frame MGA36700 is the direct manufacturer replacement for the legacy Square D MA36700 circuit breaker. It fits the same I-Line panelboard spaces and busbar configurations.
What does the G in the MGA36700 catalog number mean?
The G indicates the specific interrupting capacity tier for this PowerPacT M-frame breaker. It signifies a short-circuit rating of 65 kAIC at 240V, 35 kAIC at 480V, and 18 kAIC at 600V.
How is the line side connection made on this breaker?
The line side utilizes the Square D I-Line plug-on mounting system. The breaker jaws clamp directly onto the panelboard busbars, eliminating the need for line-side wire connections. The load side uses standard mechanical lugs.
What wire sizes are accepted by the load-side lugs?
The standard mechanical lugs on this breaker accept three 3/0 AWG to 500 kcmil aluminum or copper conductors per phase.
Is the MGA36700 rated for 100 percent continuous operation?
No, this breaker is standard rated for 80 percent continuous current. It is not designed for 100 percent continuous load applications.
What type of trip unit is installed in this breaker?
It features an ET 1.0 basic electronic trip unit. This provides fixed long-time and adjustable instantaneous protection, commonly referred to as an LI trip function.
Does this breaker require a specific phase connection?
Yes, this specific I-Line breaker is configured for a standard ABC phase connection to the panelboard busbars.
Does this breaker include a push-to-trip feature for testing?
Yes, PowerPacT M-frame breakers include an integral push-to-trip button on the front cover. This allows electricians to manually trip the breaker to verify the mechanical operation of the mechanism.
