Delivering reliable 30mA ground fault equipment protection, this 30-amp single-pole breaker is tailored for commercial and residential applications. The plug-on module mounts seamlessly into Siemens P1 panelboards and standard load centers to defend dedicated machinery circuits. With a standard 10kAIC rating at 120VAC, it utilizes proven thermal-magnetic trip technology. For modern replacements, this legacy QE series component crosses over to the updated Q130EG catalog number.
What is the difference between this GFEP breaker and a standard GFCI breaker?
The Siemens QE130 is a Ground Fault Equipment Protection (GFEP) breaker with a 30mA trip threshold. Standard Class A GFCI breakers trip at 4 to 6mA to protect personnel from shock. GFEP breakers are designed to protect equipment, such as heat tracing or snow melting systems, from damaging line-to-ground faults while preventing nuisance tripping.
What panels are compatible with the Siemens QE130 breaker?
This plug-on breaker is designed for use in Siemens load centers, including EQ, ES, PL, and SN series, as well as Siemens P1 panelboards. It is also a direct replacement for legacy ITE load centers that accept Q-frame breakers.
How do I connect the neutral wire for this breaker?
The QE130 features a pigtail neutral connection. The coiled white pigtail wire must be connected directly to the neutral bus bar in your panel to provide the reference required for the ground fault sensing circuitry to function properly.
Can this breaker be used to replace an older Murray GFEP breaker?
Yes. Siemens acquired Murray, and Siemens Q-frame breakers are the UL listed replacements for obsolete Murray plug-on breakers. The QE130 can safely replace a 30A Murray GFEP breaker in a Murray load center.
What applications typically require a 30mA GFEP breaker?
GFEP breakers with a 30mA trip threshold are commonly used for dedicated equipment circuits where a standard 5mA GFCI might experience nuisance tripping. Typical applications include outdoor de-icing equipment, roof and gutter heat tracing, snow melting equipment, and certain industrial machinery.
Is the QE130 the same as the Q130EG?
Yes. Siemens has updated their catalog numbers, and the Q130EG is the modern equivalent to the legacy QE130 part number. Both represent a 30A, 1-pole, 30mA GFEP breaker.
