This QOM2 frame main breaker is designed exclusively for Square D QO and Homeline load centers, as well as compatible CSED devices, that are rated for 150 to 225 amps and configured to accept a QOM2 main breaker.
Can I use the QOM2150VH to replace a standard QOM2150?
Yes, the QOM2150VH is a direct physical replacement for the QOM2150. The VH designation simply indicates a higher interrupting rating of 22 kAIC, whereas the standard QOM2150 is rated for 10 kAIC.
Is it permissible to install this 150A main breaker in a 200A or 225A load center?
Yes. You can install a lower amperage main breaker in a load center with a higher bus rating, such as placing this 150A breaker into a 200A or 225A QO or Homeline panel, as long as the panel accepts QOM2 frame breakers. You cannot, however, install a main breaker that exceeds the maximum rating of the panel.
How does this main breaker mount inside the load center?
The QOM2150VH is a field-installable, bolt-on main breaker. It secures directly to the interior bus assembly of the load center using mounting screws, rather than plugging onto the bus bars like a standard branch breaker.
Can the QOM2150VH be used as a branch breaker or back-fed device?
No. The QOM2 frame is specifically engineered to function as a dedicated main circuit breaker in convertible main lug panels or as a replacement main breaker. It is not designed to be mounted or back-fed in standard branch breaker spaces.
Does installing this 22 kAIC main breaker increase the short-circuit rating of my panel?
When installed ahead of standard 10 kAIC QO or Homeline branch breakers, this 22 kAIC main breaker can provide a UL listed series-connected short-circuit current rating of 22,000 amperes for the entire panel, depending on the specific branch breakers used.
