Product FAQs

7 answers
Which panelboards are compatible with the THQB1170 circuit breaker?

This bolt-on breaker is designed for installation in GE A-Series panelboards, GE AQ lighting panels, and ReliaGear RQ panelboards. Verify your specific panel label to ensure it lists THQB frame breakers as an approved type.

What is the difference between GE THQB and THHQB circuit breakers?

Both are 1-inch wide, bolt-on Q-Line breakers used in the same panelboards, but they have different interrupting capacities. The THQB series is rated for 10kAIC, whereas the THHQB series provides a higher 22kAIC rating for commercial applications requiring greater fault current protection.

What are the wire size requirements for the THQB1170 box lugs?

The load lugs accommodate 6 AWG to 1/0 AWG copper wire, or 4 AWG to 1/0 AWG aluminum wire. Ensure conductors are properly torqued to the manufacturer specifications printed on the breaker to prevent high resistance connections.

Is the THQB1170 suitable for HVAC equipment?

Yes, GE THQB circuit breakers are HACR rated. This makes them approved for use with heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment that requires this specific safety designation.

How does the THQB1170 indicate a tripped condition?

Q-Line breakers feature a quick-make, quick-break mechanism with a center trip position. When a thermal overload or short circuit occurs, the handle moves to the middle, providing a clear visual indicator separate from the standard ON and OFF positions.

Why use a bolt-on breaker like the THQB1170 instead of a plug-in type?

Bolt-on breakers secure directly to the panel busbar with a screw, providing a highly reliable, vibration-resistant connection. This makes them ideal for commercial and industrial environments where standard plug-in connections might loosen over time.

What type of trip mechanism does the THQB1170 use?

It utilizes a fixed thermal-magnetic trip unit with Long-Time (L) and Instantaneous (I) functions. The thermal element protects against sustained overloads, while the magnetic element responds immediately to short circuits.
