Part of the BW frame family, this 225A main circuit breaker provides reliable overcurrent protection for residential and commercial systems. It operates at 120/240VAC with a standard 10kAIC rating. The plug-on design mounts into Eaton Type BR load centers and ECB unit enclosures. It accepts 2 AWG to 300 kcmil wire and serves as a replacement for legacy CM2225 breakers. Equipped with fixed thermal-magnetic trip functions, it ensures consistent performance and is fully HACR rated.
What type of electrical panels are compatible with the BW2225?
This breaker is designed for use as a main breaker in Eaton BR load centers and Type ECB unit enclosures.
What wire size and material does the BW2225 accept?
The terminal lugs accept 2 AWG to 300 kcmil copper (Cu) or aluminum (Al) wire.
Is there a higher interrupting rating version of the BW2225 available?
Yes, if your application requires a higher interrupting capacity, the BWH2225 offers a 25kAIC rating compared to the 10kAIC rating of the standard BW2225.
Can I use the Eaton BW2225 to replace an older Cutler-Hammer BW2225?
Yes. Eaton acquired Cutler-Hammer, and this breaker is a direct replacement for older Cutler-Hammer models with the exact same catalog number.
Is the BW2225 used as a branch breaker or a main breaker?
The BW2225 is specifically designed to function as a main circuit breaker in compatible BR load centers and meter breaker enclosures, rather than as a standard plug-on branch breaker.
What does the LI trip function on the BW2225 indicate?
The LI designation means this thermal-magnetic breaker provides Long-Time (overload) and Instantaneous (short circuit) trip functions. Both settings are fixed and non-adjustable on this model.
What is the recommended torque specification for the wire terminals on the BW2225?
The terminal lugs on the BW2225 should be torqued to 250 lb-in. Always verify this specification with the printed label on the side of the breaker before finalizing your installation.
What is the difference between the BW2225 and the CSR2225N?
While both are 225A main breakers, the BW2225 is a legacy BW frame breaker used in specific BR load centers. The CSR2225N is a newer CSR frame main breaker. They have different physical footprints and are not directly interchangeable. You must use the specific frame type listed on your panel's wiring diagram.
