Product FAQs

8 answers
Which panelboards are compatible with the Federal Pacific NE234020 circuit breaker?

The NE234020 is designed exclusively for installation in legacy Federal Pacific NE panelboards. It features a bolt-on mounting configuration that aligns with the busbars in these specific commercial enclosures.

Can the NE234020 breaker be used in DC voltage applications?

Yes, in addition to its standard AC ratings, this breaker is rated for use in DC systems up to 250VDC, where it provides an interrupting capacity of 5kAIC.

What wire sizes are accepted by the lugs on the NE234020?

The terminal lugs on this breaker accept wire gauges ranging from 14 AWG to 10 AWG. Ensure your conductors fall within this range for a secure connection.

Are there direct aftermarket replacements for the Federal Pacific NE234020?

Yes, aftermarket manufacturers produce exact-fit replacements for this N-frame breaker, such as the UBINE234020. These serve as drop-in substitutes for original Federal Pacific components, eliminating the need for extensive panel upgrades.

What protection functions are included in the NE234020 trip unit?

This breaker features a thermal-magnetic trip unit with an LI function code. It provides fixed long-time protection against overloads and fixed instantaneous protection against short circuits.

How does the NE234020 connect to the panelboard bus?

This is a bolt-on circuit breaker. It requires mechanical fastening directly to the panelboard busbars, which provides a highly secure electrical connection compared to standard plug-on designs.

Is the NE234020 interchangeable with Federal Pacific Stab-Lok breakers?

No. The NE234020 is an N-frame molded case circuit breaker with a bolt-on connection, designed for commercial NE panelboards. It will not fit in residential Stab-Lok load centers, which use a completely different plug-on design.

Does the NE234020 share the same design as the recalled Federal Pacific residential breakers?

No. The NE234020 is a commercial-grade N-frame molded case circuit breaker. It does not use the Stab-Lok plug-on design that was the subject of historical safety concerns in residential load centers.
