Product FAQs

6 answers
What does the -1021 suffix indicate on the FA34030-1021 catalog number?

The -1021 suffix designates that this circuit breaker includes a factory-installed 120/240VAC shunt trip. This accessory allows the breaker to be tripped remotely for emergency shutdown or control applications.

How is the factory-installed shunt trip wired and operated?

The shunt trip mechanism requires an external 120VAC or 240VAC control power source. When the control voltage is applied to the accessory leads, it energizes the coil and mechanically trips the breaker to open the circuit.

What applications typically require the shunt trip feature found on this breaker?

Shunt trips are commonly required by electrical codes for emergency stop applications. Typical uses include shutting down equipment during a fire alarm event, elevator control disconnects, or remote emergency power-off (EPO) stations.

How does the FA34030-1021 connect to the panelboard?

This breaker utilizes the Square D I-Line plug-on mounting system, which allows the line side to snap directly onto the panelboard bus. The load side utilizes standard mechanical lugs for wire termination.

Is the FA34030-1021 a current production breaker?

The FA series is a legacy F-Frame molded case circuit breaker. It is typically sourced as a direct replacement to maintain existing Square D I-Line panelboards without requiring bus modifications or system upgrades.

Can the trip settings be adjusted on the FA34030-1021?

No, this F-Frame breaker features fixed thermal and fixed magnetic trip elements. It does not offer field-adjustable trip settings for the overload or short-circuit protection.
