Part of the PowerPacT M-frame family, this 800A molded case circuit breaker features an advanced electronic trip unit with adjustable long-time and instantaneous settings. It mounts into Square D I-Line panelboards and switchboards, serving as a modern upgrade for legacy MA36800 units. Rated for 35kA at 480VAC, the microprocessor-based sensing provides superior accuracy over traditional thermal-magnetic designs, making it ideal for demanding industrial power distribution networks.
What does the E10 suffix indicate on the MGA36800E10 catalog number?
The E10 suffix indicates that the breaker is equipped with an electronic trip unit featuring an adjustable long-time pickup (Ir). It can be dialed anywhere between 300A and 800A, rather than having a single fixed 800A rating.
Can this adjustable breaker replace fixed-rating M-frame breakers?
Yes. Because of its adjustable long-time settings, this single breaker can be configured in the field to replace fixed-amperage I-Line models like the MGA36300, MGA36400, MGA36500, or the standard fixed MGA36800.
Which trip functions are adjustable on this electronic trip unit?
This breaker provides an adjustable long-time pickup (Ir) from 300A to 800A, as well as an adjustable instantaneous trip (Ii) setting from 1600A to 8000A. This flexibility allows for highly precise selective coordination within your electrical distribution system.
How does this breaker connect to the panelboard?
It uses an I-Line plug-on bracket mounting configuration. The line side jaws plug directly onto the bus of Square D I-Line panelboards and switchboards, while the load side uses traditional mechanical wire lugs.
What type of lugs are included on the load side?
It comes standard with AL800M23K mechanical lugs on the load side. These lugs accept three 3/0 AWG to 500 kcmil aluminum or copper conductors per phase.
What is the recommended tightening torque for the load side lugs?
The AL800M23K load side mechanical lugs require a tightening torque of 442.5 lb-in (50 N.m) for 3/0 AWG to 500 kcmil conductors.
Does this breaker have a manual trip feature for testing?
Yes, it includes a push-to-trip button on the front cover. This allows qualified personnel to manually exercise the breaker mechanism to verify proper mechanical operation during routine maintenance or before isolating a circuit.
